All Good Things...

All good things are supposed to come to an end, right? Well, what about things that are super awesome? They evolve.

Yes my fellow nerds, we’re evolving here at G.N. And by evolving, I mean moving.

Generation Nerd has a great many changes headed its way and the first of those changes is that we are moving to a new home. A site that is far more advanced than Blogger (sorry) with many more options for us to grow and expand with. Right now we’re mid transition, the new site is up and functional, though shaky at best. So if you head on over to the link (that will be provided at the end of this post) you’ll see what we mean.

In addition to a new, badass looking home, we are going to start some new features with the G.N world that will ensure that you get your dose of Nerdom on a more regular basis. What those awesome features are, we’re not telling you… It would ruin the surprise, and then you may not come back.

Feel free to come on over to the new site, drop us a line, a comment, tell us if there are things that aren’t working properly.

Hope you enjoy.

Jurassic World

My initial thoughts when I heard Jurassic World was going to be a movie and the premise behind it.

"Oh great another cheesy Jurassic Movie, you would think after III they would have been like this is done."

And

"Why the #*$! would you combine a T-Rex with a Velociraptor whats next are you going to combine a Brontosaurus with that spitting dinosaur?

The months when by and I had all but forgotten about Jurassic World planning to wait until it was on HBO or Showtime.  But someone talked me into seeing it.

I am honestly glad I did go to see it.  The director Colin Trevorrow took great pains to bring back the concepts from The Original Jurassic Park that we all loved and mixed it nearly seamlessly with his new vision of the island.  You can spot all sorts of Easter Eggs from the original movie.  From the DNA strand Animation to the Bioengineer who helped create the original dinos on the island.  In the twenty two years that have transpired since the first movie.  A lot has changed on the island.  The Visitor Center has been recreated and relocated to further south of the island.  The Dinosaurs are no longer rampaging around the island.....yet.  They seem to really have their act together for the attractions..... Until....  They played god and created a new Dinosaur hybrid.  Smarter and bigger than a T-Rex without the visual limitations and MUCH MORE.  During inspection of the new beast.  The owner of the company decides to bring in Chris Pratt's character to see if there is anything that can be done to make the creature more docile and ready for the viewing pleasure of audiences.  Chris Pratt clearly does not like the idea and is quick to point out everything they have been doing since this thing's birth is wrong.  This is when the shit hits the fan and you find out only a small portion of what this new Dino can do.

Chris Pratt's character Owen is an ex Navy guy who has been hired to handle and train the Raptors Blue, Charlie, Delta and Echo.  As the movie progresses you find out that Owen has been with the Raptors since they hatched having them imprinted on him and has trained them since they were hatchlings.  They are a pack with Owen as the Alpha and Blue as Beta.  Needless to say Owen is very good with the raptors and has come to form a sort of relationship with them.  Owen points this out to Claire (the chief of operations at Jurassic World) when he finds out that the new Hybrid Dino has been raised alone.

Claire: "Your raptors were born in captivity."
Owen: "Yeah with siblings, so they learned social skills.  As well as me as I imprinted on them after they hatched.  The only relationship this thing has is with that crane cause it knows that is what brings it food."

Chris Pratt is clearly the glue that holds this movie together.  He commands the scene and keeps the plot on focus while spouting out witty lines all the while.  I was quick to drop the fact that he was Star-Lord and could easily believe him as this Dino Expert/Trainer.

Overall I give this movie an 8 out of 10.

The movie is well paced, very believable.  There is some sections of it that leave you going ummm that was easily avoidable.  It brought back a lot of fun memories from the first movie and brought in scenes from the first movie only with a 22 year old growth on it.  You should defiantly go out and see this movie you will be glad you did.

Cooking with Hiei 2

Please note that this is not an exact recipe the contents change daily and I am ever improving on the taste.

What you will need
1 Shallot
Sea Salt Grinder
4 Seasons Pepper Grinder
Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard (Or Yellow whichever you prefer)
Honey
Balsamic Vinegar
Extra Virgin Olive oil

What you need to do
Dice and chop half of the shallot or the whole shallot depending your preference to it. Once chopped place into a small measuring cup. From this step grind the salt and pepper on top perferably one to two grinds for each. Pour in 1 to 2 teaspoons of the Gulden's mustard. Pour in about 1 to 1 and a half teaspoons of honey. Drizzle in Balsamic Vinegar, then drizzle and whisk in extra virgin olive oil. This should make about 1/3 cup of dressing (at least that is what my measuring cup told me) pour dressing over the salad and mix to coat the salad. Enjoy.

If you want to kick it up a bit chop in some garlic with the shallots. Please remember that this recipe changes practically daily. Please give this dressing a try and tell me what you think.

Thank you for reading and enjoy.  If you make this.  Tell me what you think or variations you made.

Sherlocked

Before I get into my late review of this show.  Allow me just a moment to bring you up to speed on one of my favorite fictional characters.  From the time I had stories read to me and the time I could read.  I was enthralled at a young age by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.  The worlds greatest detective.  I remember listening to the tales of the detective and than later reading some of them.  Sherlock Holmes was brilliant, cunning, witty and all round amazing.  Sherlock was the bases for many modern day detective stories.  I hope you enjoy.

Sherlock, co-created by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and Mark Gatiss (Also plays Mycroft Holmes in the show).  The two have taken the old tales of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and brought them into the 21st century.  Retelling them and making them fit in seamlessly into our everyday world.  The seasons are short but each episode is and hour and a half long.  This works perfectly for this show.  How?  Well lets start with Benedict Cumberbatch.  The man brings this modern day Sherlock to a whole new life.  His mannerisms, his inflections, the way he moves about the scene.  Playing off the superiority that is Sherlock Holmes to the point where you want to punch him and congratulate him at the same time.

"I am a high functioning Sociopath, do your research." Sherlock

With an impecible memory and the ability to deduct minuet details to figure out crimes is uncanny and given who he is.  You can believe he will  nit pick and analyze the scene and possibly you.  He is the smartest man in the room and he knows it...... Unless of course his older brother Mycroft is in the room.  Than it is a battle of wits that would make even the most seasoned psychiatrist's jaw drop.

But who can you pair with this man.  Why none other Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman The Hobbit Bilbo Baggins).  Back from the war in Afghanistan.  Watson is looking for a place to stay and not content to living at his sister's place.  Watson starts off the series slow and with a limp which is Psychosomatic as Sherlock quickly points out and than later proves.  They (Sherlock and Watson) have a very tense relationship even from the start.  They have a relationship that quickly blooms into one you would see between best friends.  The tension between them makes for great conversations and for moments when you think for just a split second that Watson is going to punch Holmes in the face.

Overall with the seasons only being 3 episodes long.  I highly recommend you going out and watching this show.  ESPECIALLY if you are fans of the books and movies.... Sorry Robert Downy Jr...... But you have been replaced as best Holmes.

You've Got To Be Joking...

Oh, I just think that I’m so punny... Lol.

By now you’ve all been made painfully aware of Jared Leto as The Joker? Well… Here’s a brief opinion from me, Andi.

No, no, no, no, oh, no.

I love Jared Leto, I love the music he comes out with, and I’m not blind, he’s beautiful. He’s a talented young man with a lot of skill and promise. However… Jared Leto… As The Joker? My brain can literally not handle this. I’ve seen the pictures for days now, And under the makeup I can still see Jared. But I can’t see Jared as The Joker. Make sense? I am absolutely okay with the two entities as something separate, but together, Leto as The Joker, I’m very, very skeptical of.

Now, like I said, he’s a talented young man and I’ve honestly got my fingers crossed that he does a great job… I just wish I was able to say I was more hopeful for that. I will however, say that I am very interested to see Margot Robbie as Harley. If ya’ll have a picture, a real picture, send it my way.

What do you guys think of the casting for The Suicide Squad so far? I’d love to know!

Youtube Has Taken Down a Great Show

Within the last couple of months a GREAT Webisode show on YouTube has sprung up and captured the nerdy hearts of many.  Melissa Hunter's Adult Wednesday Addams.  The show follows the life of Wednesday Addams after leaving the Mansion in order to follow her own path.  Each Wednesday, Wednesday Addams takes on a different problem.  Ranging from meeting her potential new roommates, to interviewing for a job and taking on a protestor at an Abortion Clinic.  All the while using her clever and witty barbs and manipulating the situation to her favor.  Melissa Hunter (Wednesday) has captured the spirit and overall power that is Wednesday and made it her own.

But YouTube has taken down the show for copyright infringement.  Melissa is currently in the process of getting the show back on the air.  So to her I say good luck and hope to see you as Wednesday soon.

The only way I know how to show support is by doing something like this.  Making my readers aware of the situation so that they can reach out to their friends.  Show your support by telling YouTube you want to see More Adult Wednesday Addams.  A collective of voices can grow strong by talking about the same thing.

Thank you for reading and I implore you to show Melissa Hunter support in anyway you can.

If you liked this or want to comment than please do so.

Thank You for reading

Mortal Kombat!! (You know you just yelled it like the song...)

Let’s start this off by saying that I have always, always been a fan of Mortal Kombat games. Perhaps in part to the fact that my mother refused to allow me to play them as a child… Which just meant that I played as hard as I could at anyone’s house that had the games, or in any arcade format that I could get my hands on. I of course always favored the female characters, Sonya having been my favorite for the absolute longest time. Girl power and all… Thanks Spice Girls. So when I first read about MKX coming out I looked into what characters were going to be available to me. Sadly I didn’t see some of those that I have come to love, Li Mei being one of them. I was bummed out that I would have to once again learn all of these new fancy characters and their stories and moves.

I can honestly say that the story mode is worth playing! The story is in depth, well thought out, and expertly executed. And the new characters that I had made myself worry about, are actually rather playable. My favorite being Sonya’s daughter, Cassie Cage; she’s a quick spitfire with hard hitting moves. MKX has followed in the ways of the previous games and brought back the Xray moves, each specifically designed per character. The fatalities are just as gruesome as ever; blood and guts galore. There are multiple styles of playing within the story mode. It really is a story, you do a lot of watching cut scenes and learning the background, but within there is also quick hitting trigger buttons and plenty of fights. You aren’t limited to just playing the side of the good guys, some of the fights you are the ‘bad guy’ characters. Though, this does at a certain level of predictability within the game.
The more I play into the story mode the happier I keep getting. For as upset as I was about not having some of my favorite characters as playables, it is still nice to see them in the story mode. And it seems that the further into the story mode I’m getting the more characters that are showing up. Did they forget absolutely any of them? So far, the answer has been ‘no’. – Side note… I googled it… There’s a lot missing, I think I was just being biased based on those that I actually liked
Each level has a predetermined limit of features that are able to be interacted with. Some designed to help you distance yourself from your opponent, whereas others help damage the others by throwing pots, flinging ashes, and even tossing old ladies (my personal favorite right there.). Maybe my mind is a bit more twisted than it should be, but some of the interactions are just laughable.

Now. I haven’t played through the game fully, nor do I wish to give away any plot spoilers, but I will say that this game is well worth the money. I think the only grievance I have had with the game so far is the way that they’ve handled the Krypt. And it isn’t even so much how you use the krypt, it is just the movement in which you go through the krypt. Minus that, I don’t really have anything negative to say about the game thus far… And I hope that it’ll stay that way.

Fast forward like 2 hours or so and I beasted through the entire story line. I still say it was a good story line. I still approve of everything. Now, me being me I do wish that the story line would have been longer. However on the other side of the same coin if they had made it longer, it may have felt drawn out.

Let me know what ya’ll think of the game if you’ve played it. Or if you have intentions of playing the game! I had fun with it. I’d love to know what ya’ll think!
